Antonin Musset began playing the cello at the age of seven under the guidance of Alexandre Lacour. He later studied with Hélène Dautry at the Conservatoire Régional de Paris and with Claudio Pasceri at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo.
He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Bern University of the Arts, studying with the renowned Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses, and went on to complete a postgraduate program at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München in the class of Julian Steckel. Since 2021, he has been an artist-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium, under the tutelage of Gary Hoffman and Jeroen Reuling
In 2018, Antonin received a special prize at the Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition for his interpretation of Chopin’s Cello Sonata. This led to an invitation by The Fryderyk Chopin Institute to perform at the “Chopin and His Europe” festival in Warsaw.
In 2023, he was awarded a special mention at the prestigious Pierre Fournier Award held at London’s Wigmore Hall.
He has participated in several of Europe’s leading academies, including the Verbier Festival Academy and the Seiji Ozawa International Academy, where he was able to work with outstanding mentors and peers.
Antonin’s love for orchestral playing began at age 19 during an internship with the Sinfonieorchester Basel. Two years later, he joined the Academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he performed under some of the world’s most celebrated conductors, including Christian Thielemann, Daniele Gatti, Riccardo Muti, Herbert Blomstedt, and Gustavo Dudamel.
As a soloist, he has performed Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D major with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with both the Munich University Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre National de Belgique, and Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Orchestre National de Metz.
He is regularly invited as guest principal cellist with leading ensembles such as the Luxembourg Philharmonic and the Oslo Philharmonic.
After serving as principal cellist of the Orchestre National de Metz during the 2023/2024 season, Antonin was appointed principal cellist of the Bern Symphony Orchestra in September 2024.
He plays a cello crafted by Claude-Augustin Miremont in 1870.
